Economic Development

Attracting a diverse range of new jobs to Transylvania County is essential. Christy has substantial experience in this area, having been on the front lines of economic development numerous times during her 15-year career in commercial real estate development, where she managed over 100 business expansions. The days when low taxes and minimal regulations were sufficient to attract businesses are long past; today, factors such as housing, schools, and childcare have become critical components of effective economic development.

Creative Funding

Transylvania County deserves leadership that not only believes in the potential for solving problems but is also committed to taking decisive action. When state funds are available for essential services such as childcare, affordable housing, mental health services, and flood mitigation, it is imperative for county leaders to secure as much of this funding as possible for Transylvania County. By actively competing with other counties, we can maximize benefits for our residents and enhance the quality of life in our community.

Strong Schools

Christy has heard from the public that it is time for progress to replace delays in school construction projects. This requires the prudent and methodical allocation of bond funds already raised for capital needs, prioritized according to the schools' requirements. Additionally, Christy understands that strategically investing sales tax allocations for schools in timely repairs is essential for maintaining the value of taxpayers' most important assets.

She is also aware that Transylvania County faces a competitive disadvantage compared to Buncombe, Henderson, and Greenville counties in terms of teacher pay supplements, housing supply, and childcare access. She will support initiatives that enhance the value of our teachers and the quality of education for our students. Treating our educators and students with dignity and respect is essential and non-negotiable.

Cooperative Relationships

Christy recognizes that the stability and success of many aspects of Transylvania County are supported by the excellent organizations and non-profits serving our community. It is essential for leadership to support, collaborate with, and advocate for these valuable entities. This includes pursuing grant funding and engaging in strategic planning to ensure their continued effectiveness and impact.
